Mr. Timothy Katende is an Information Technology (IT) Engineer working with the Uganda Episcopal Conference, supporting the Strategic Information function of the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau and managing over 170 health facilities within the Catholic Health Network on the Flash Project. He holds a B.S. in Arts with a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science from Makerere University, Uganda. Mr. Katende’s areas of expertise are in Database Management Information Systems. He is also knowledgeable in computer Networks, having studied the Cisco Certified Network Associate course at Makerere University.
Mr. Katende has been a pioneer in his field. He was part of the team that invented and promoted Healthstats. This data mining tool is used across most health facilities in Uganda to generate reports from the Uganda Electronic Management system. The tool is used in over 500 Health facilities. He serves as the lead Systems Analyst for the new indicator definitions that the Uganda Ministry of Health released to be incorporated into the latest version of Healtstats version 3.4.3.
Previously, Mr. Katende worked with Futures Group, now Palladium, as a Strategic Information Associate on the AidsRelief project. While at Palladium, he set up an SFTP server where health facilities could remotely drop and back up their patient records data. He also worked with Africaleo Incorporation, an organization he co-founded with colleagues in high school. While at Africaleo, he developed Management Information Systems for schools, human resource units, and law firms. He is currently studying as a data scientist and working to create an automated asset tracker for Ndugu Technologies. This software will automate all inventory with a stock management module.
Mr. Katende spends his free time on youth soccer. His experience with youth soccer goes way back, but recently he took this experience to the next level by starting the Tk soccer charity academy. This is something he does out of passion and desire to give back.
